The Lemelson Foundation celebrates and supports inventors and entrepreneurs in order to strengthen social and economic life. The Foundation is a private philanthropy established by one of the most prolific U.S. inventors, Jerome Lemelson, and his family. It uses its resources to inspire, encourage and recognize inventors, innovators and entrepreneurs, with a growing emphasis on those who harness invention for sustainable development where the needs are greatest. To date, The Lemelson Foundation has donated or committed more than $130 million in support of its mission.
Reporting to the Chief Financial and Administrative Officer (CFAO), the Accountant will be responsible for day-to-day accounting operations including general accounting, reporting, accounts payable, payroll and benefits as well as participating in grant and program related investments. He/She will be actively involved with the implementation of Oracle Financials and will update policies and procedures to reflect the most current processes. In addition to the assigned responsibilities, the Accountant will take on special projects as requested by the CFAO.

The ideal candidate will have exceptional general accounting experience including knowledge of investment accounting with an interest in learning grant accounting. He/She will have a demonstrated track record of multi tasking and managing competing priorities in order to meet deadlines. The successful candidate will routinely exhibit excellent customer service skills.
The successful candidate will have strong working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and a minimum of five years experience in general accounting, accounts payable and investment accounting. Candidates will have advanced knowledge of PC based software applications, including spreadsheets and experience working with online general ledger systems, preferably Oracle Financials. Familiarity with Grant Accounting is desired. Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or business administration is required. The Foundation encourages all staff to be available for international travel.
